Education Exists to Advance Society – Hon. Minister

The Hon. Minister for Education, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has said education exists to advance society thus her sector Ministry is taking quality education seriously for the development of the nation.

The Minister said this during the commissioning of some projects at the Holy Child College of Education in Takoradi and the Our Lady of Apostles (OLA) College of Education (CoE) in Cape Coast.

The projects are a 200 multi-sitter library complex at Holy Child and an assembly hall at OLA CoEs.

Commissioning the projects, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang noted that her Ministry was addressing all technicalities in the delivering of quality education and therefore called for the need for high level personnel for in-service training of teachers.

The project, according to Prof. Opoku-Agyemeng, is for the transformation of teacher trainees and urged the beneficiary institutions to take opportunity of the facilities to learn things outside their school carriculum.

The Hon. Minister said the auditorium could be used to invite professors to lecture the teacher trainees in other disciplines that were not part of their curriculum to broaden their knowledge.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang reiterated government’s commitment in completing abandoned projects in all educational institutions.

She said the Government was working towards the absorption of five private Colleges of Education across the country.

The Principals of the two colleges expressed their gratitude towards the Government and the Ministry and called for support in maintaining the projects.

The Minister took the opportunity to inspect some on-going projects in the two institutions.

She was accompanied by the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. Enoch H. Cobbinah and the Director of Tertiary, Mrs. Wilhelmina Asamoah.
