Japanese Ambassador calls on Minister


The Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Kaoru Yoshimura, has paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Education, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang in her office in Accra. H.E. Kaoru Yoshimura said the purpose of the visit was to introduce himself to the Minister as the new envoy to Ghana and also to extend an invitation from the Japanese Minister for Education to her Ghanaian counterpart to attend a meeting on sustainable development in Japan in November this year. He was optimistic that the already existing ties between Japan and Ghana would be strengthened more for collective benefit of the two countries.

He congratulated the Minister her for her rich experience in managing issues in the education sector. He also asked the Minister to strengthen the decentralization policy on education to produce the desired results. Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang accepted the invitation and stressed that cooperation between the two countries is very important. She commended the work of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) saying it remains very important for a country like Ghana. She described her work with JICA at the time she was a lecturer at the University of Cape Coast as very refreshing.

The Minister maintained that Ghana is committed to delivering quality education, especially in the rural areas. She said government will continue to pay attention to the girl-child education as well as pupils with disability. It is about quality, equity and inclusion and we shall make it happen, she concluded.
