Ghana Sweeps 2014 WAEC International Excellecnce Awards



Three Ghanaian students have been awarded by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) for being the best candidates in last year’s WASSCE results in Lagos, Nigeria.

The students were Masters Mickail Hasan (Ghana Technical School,Takoradi), Blaykyi Kenyah ( St. Augustine’s College, ( Cape Coast,) and Archibald H. Enninful( Mfantsipim School, Cape Coast).

Master Mickhail Hasan, who also won the Augustus Bandele Oyediran Award for the Best Candidate in West Africa, received a cash prize of USD 1,000 while the second and third best candidates also received USD 750 and USD 500 respectively. All the winners received the Ghana cedi equivalent of the amounts indicated.

The award winners emerged from a total of 2,018,497 candidates who sat the May/June WASSCE in the Gambia, Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia and Sierra Leone in 2014.

Earlier (12th March, 2015,) the current international winners were awarded the national Distinction Awards for best performance in the 2014 WASSCE in Accra, Ghana.

Presenting the 2014 WAEC International Excellence Awards to the Ghanaians at the 63rd Annual Council Meeting in Lagos, Nigeria, WAEC congratulated Ghana for the continued excellence in education and advised other member countries to learn from the educational system of Ghana which produced the top students.

Members of the Ghanaian delegation to the Meeting include the Chief Director, Ministry of Education, Mr. Enoch H. Cobbinah; the Ag. Director –General, Ghana Education Service, Mr. Jacob Kor and the Head of Ghana National Office of WAEC, V. Rev. Sam Nii Ollenu.
