The new Executive Council Members of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS) has paid a courtesy call on Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the Minister for Education, in her office in Accra.

The new Executive members led by its President, Prof. Akilagpa Sawyer were in her office to introduce themselves to the Minister.

The Minister commended the Academy for its contributions towards the socio-economic development of some of the challenges facing the country.

The Minister, who is a fellow of the Academy appealed to the members to put their rich experience at the disposal of the nation.

She commended the past Executive Members for their immense contributions towards the Academy.

The new President commended the Government for its assistance in putting up an office and auditorium complex for the Academy.

Prof. Akilagpa Sawyer also called on the Government to provide enough funds to the Academy to enable them undertake programmes.

He assured the Minister of their preparedness to assist the Government in handling some of the problems facing the nation.

Present at the meeting were the Chief Director, Mr. Enoch Cobbinah, Prof. Aba Bentil Aidam, Vice President of The Academy and other Executive Council Members.
