As part of activities marking the 58th Independence Anniversary Celebration of Ghana, the Minister for Education, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has organised a special luncheon in honor of the President’s Independence Award Winners in Accra.

The annual program, instituted in 1993 is used to recognize students who showed excellent performance in each year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The special luncheon was attended by this year’s award winners, their parents, teachers and officials from the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service.

In an address, Prof. Naana Opoku-Agyemang described the event as a moment of recognition for brilliant performance. She urged the awardees to always recognize and appreciate the critical roles played in their lives by parents, teachers and all other stakeholders and study hard to accomplish their dreams.

The Minister challenged the award winners to achieve greater heights in their academic performance so as to contribute their quota to national development in the future.

Also present at the luncheon were the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. Enoch Cobbinah and the Ag. Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Mr. Jacob Kor, and Directors well as other officials from the Ministry.

Earlier in the day, the Vice-President of the Republic, H.E. Paa Quecy Amissah-Arthur, on behalf of the President, presented awards to the twenty students who were selected from the ten regions of the country.
