TWENTY STUDENTS RECEIVE PRESIDENT’S AWARDS

As part of the nation’s 58th Independence Anniversary, twenty (20) students, two from each region, were given special awards at this year’s President’s Independence Awards Ceremony in Accra as a special recognition for their brilliant performance in the 2014 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Presenting the awards on behalf of the President, the Vice-President, H.E. Paa Kwesi Amissar-Arthur, said “for a sustainable development to be achieved there is the need for unity, which must be instilled into the youth as the basis for their character formation.”

According to him, both young and old, need to harness all resources as one people to build the nation.

“All of us have a unique role to play, both as individuals and as a group, to help transform this nation to the better Ghana we all yearn for”, he stressed.

He noted that Government on its part has demonstrated total commitment to education by putting in place policies and interventions to improve access, equity and quality in education for all children of school-going age, irrespective of gender, tribe and geographical location.

 

Mr. Amissar-Arthur gave his assurance that Government will not relent in her efforts to provide the youth with the best of educational opportunities to guarantee a better and prosperous nation. He, therefore, charged the youth to take advantage of these opportunities offered them to remain in school, take their lessons seriously, study hard and excel to greater heights.

The Minister for Education, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, entreated the award winners to share the knowledge acquired with their colleagues since it is the surest way of acquiring more.

She said since the inception of the award, about four hundred students have so far benefited from it. She commended the Nestle Ghana Limited for their outstanding sponsorship of the event over the years.
