SIEMEN Board meets Dr. Opoku Prempeh

The management board of SIEMENS Proprietary Ltd, has met with the Minister for Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, to discuss the company’s on-going and proposed investments in education.

Briefing the Minister, Mr. Edmund Acheampong, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SEIMEN Properties disclosed that the company has undertaken technical and vocational training of people in schools, adding that over 10,000 people are educated every year and equipped with technical and vocational skills.

SIEMENS have assessed some educational institutions in the country, including Kwame Nkrumah University of Science Technology KNUST, in Kumasi, Sekondi College in Sekondi and Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC), in Accra, among others, to see how they screen students for technical and vocational education and training.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh said government was redefining TVET and would set up a TVET Authority to manage technical and vocational institutions across the country.

He indicated that the government wants people to get skills training for industry and as a result would partner with relevant companies such as SIEMENS to provide room for technical and vocational students to undergo industrial attachment.

Similarly, he said Ghana would enter into partnerships with countries such as Germany, India and South Korea among others that are TVET bias, to share their experiences.

The Minister disclosed that a College of Education in each region of the country would be equipped to run TVET programmes to enable graduates after completion to be posted to technical and vocational institutions to teach at the JHS level.

He indicated that Science Technology and Mathematics (STEM) educational institutions would be established in each region to popularise science, technology and mathematics.

SIEMENS Properties had been in the country for the past three years and engaged in power generation, education and supporting industry among others.
