Prez Akufo addo elaborates Plans on Education in SONA


President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has for the second time reiterated that the Free Senior High School (FSHS) programme would commence in September of the 2017/18 academic year.

This time, the President emphasized the fulfillment of the promise when he presented his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Parliament in accordance with article 67 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.

He assured that his government would embark on vigorous expansion and re-aligning of technical, vocational and agricultural schools all under the Ministry of Education’s Technical Vocational and Education Training (TVET) Unit to ensure standardization, adding that ICT would be a central feature in education.

He also promised to restore the teacher trainee allowance and place the teacher at the centre of quality education.

“Education holds the key to our development. It holds the key to the prosperous and lucky Ghana. I want every child to attend school from Kindergarten to Senior High. Literacy, numeracy and creative skills.

Free SHS starts this year. We shall expand schools, technical and vocational to ensure standardization. ICT will be a central feature in education. Teacher shall be placed at the centre of quality education. Teacher trainee allowances will be restored”, he said.
