Botswana Envoy Call on Minister for Education

The High Commissioner of Botswana to West Africa, H. E. Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Louis M. Fisher, has paid a courtesy call on Prof. Opoku-Agyemang at her office in Accra.

The Minister and the High Commissioner discussed issues of mutual concern to their respective countries, which dwelt mainly on the development of their education sectors.

Interacting with the Minister, H. E. Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Louis M. Fisher lauded the Ghana education system, which he described as one of the best in sub-Saharan Africa, and called for further cooperation between their two countries.

The Botswana envoy was impressed that Ghana spends 34 per cent of her budget on education and added that Botswana continues to draw lessons from Ghana.

The Minister for Education, Hon. Prof. Naana Opoku-Agyemang, agreed to join Botswana to advance education partnership between the two countries.

She said the Ministry was ready to share the country's education best practice with the people of Botswana and called for the exchange of students and scholars as one of the means of deepening bilateral relations between the two countries.

The two were of the opinion that Pan-Africanism is relevant for the development of the continent and human resource, adding that there was a lot that the countries could share together.

H.E. Fisher was accompanied by Mr. Thomas Okyere, Bostwana's Honorary Consul in Ghana.
