Ashanti Region school Teachers get laptop computers


The Deputy Minister for Education in-charge of Pre-Tertiary education, Hon. Alex Kyeremeh, has presented 5, 368 laptop computers under the “Teachers Laptop Project”, for distribution to selected basic school teachers in the Ashanti Region.

In a brief handing over ceremony at the premises of the Ministry, the Deputy Minister said the laptop computers were loaded with content on all basic school subjects to enhance teaching and learning.

The government has trained about 51,558 selected basic school teachers across the country in 2013, and in the 2015/2016 academic year, 31, 075 selected teachers in basic schools also received ICT training.

Out of the 31, 075 selected basic school teachers who were trained nationwide, 5,368 teachers from the Ashanti Region have benefited.

Hon. Kyeremeh also said in total, government has trained 82, 633 selected basic school teachers across the country since 2013 and so far 54, 500 laptop computers have been distributed to the selected basic school teachers.

He cautioned beneficiary teachers to handle the laptops with care and use them for the purposed for which they were trained and also leave the computers in the schools when transferred.

National and regional ICT coordinators have been empowered to monitor the use of the computers by the beneficiary teachers in their schools to ensure they were put to good use.

The Deputy Minister presented the laptops to Mr. Offey Amoako, the Regional Principal Supply Officer on behalf of the Ministry.

Mr. Amoako commended the Ministry for the gesture and said the authorities of the Regional Directorate of education, will ensure safety and proper use of the computers after they have distributed to the teachers.

The teachers have earlier been trained in ICT skills during the 2015/2016 academic year.

Present during the handing over event was the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mr. Enoch Cobbinah, the Director of Finance and Administration, Mr. Benjamin Afful and other senior officials of the Ministry.
