MoE reacts to false claim of scholarships for newly trained teachers

The attention of the Ministry of Education has been drawn to a claim that the Minister for Education and an NGO calling itself JKLEDU, are in partnership agreement to send at least 1,600 newly trained teachers on scholarship to further their education in Britain.

The claim which has gone viral on some social media platforms went further to state that “interested people should visit their District Directors to fill the form before 28th November, 2016”. It added that the number to contact for “detailed information” is 0249913162, advising those interested not to pay any amount, “be it in cash or in kind”.

We urge the general public, particularly, all newly trained teachers countrywide to ignore the claim and state further that:

  • The Minister for Education has nothing to do with the claim.
  • The Minister does not know the said NGO called JKLEDU, neither has she ever met any member of the said NGO, let alone entering into any partnership agreement with the NGO.
  • The Minister and/or the Ministry does not offer scholarships to teachers and students.
  • The Ministry deals with credible NGOs in Education under the broad umbrella of the Ghana National Collation of NGOs in Education.

The Ministry’s doors are always open to the general public for enquiring about any issue pertaining to education, including scholarships.
