Ministry Resolves Accreditation And Affiliation Issues Between Two Private Varsities And NAB

.

In the wake of recent media reports on issues bothering on accreditation and affiliation and the fate of students of two private universities, the Minister for Education, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, held a crucial meeting with all the concerned parties Wednesday February 4, 2015.

The meeting was fruitful and ended on a good note to the satisfaction of all the parties.

Present at the meeting were officials from the Methodist University College, Pentecost University College, Conference of Heads of Independent Private Universities, Ghana, the National Accreditation Board (NAB) and the National Council for Tertiary Education (NCTE).

The platform created the needed opportunity for the Minister and her Deputies to understand the positions of the parties regarding approval of programme accreditation and institutional affiliation or mentorship which in some instances have ended up in court.

The Hon. Minister highlighted the essential services the NAB and NCTE provide through quality assurance and maintaining standards in tertiary education delivery as well as the contribution of private tertiary institutions towards higher education in the country.

She, however, called on the National Accreditation Board and the National Council for Tertiary Education to provide clarity of rules and regulatory procedures on accreditation to beneficiary private institutions while the latter take steps at all times to adhere strictly to them.

As such, all tertiary institutions (both public and private) that have peculiar outstanding issues regarding programme accreditation and institutional affiliation or mentorship have been urged to expedite action on the process as a matter of urgency to ensure timely successful completion to avoid any repercussions on students.

Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang was particularly pleased with the harmonious and serene atmosphere within which the meeting took place.

She also assured the parties of the Ministry's preparedness to provide regular dialogue platforms to iron out pertinent issues at all times.

The meeting was also attended by the two Deputy Ministers, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Hon. Alex Kyeremeh.
