GHANASS Gets New Dormitory

The Ministry of Education (MoE) and Ghana Education Service (GES) have handed over a renovated girls’ dormitory block to the staff and students of Ghana Senior High School (GHANASS) in Koforidua in the Eastern region.

On the 17th March, 2016, the girl’s dormitory block of GHANASS was raised down by fire. The situation rendered most of the students homeless since the inferno consumed most of the rooms housing them.

This prompted an immediate visit by officials from the MoE and the GES to the school to ascertain the extent of the damage. The Sector Ministry has since built a dormitory for the affected students.

Expressing their delight about the project, the students said it has brought relief to the school authorities and served as a moral booster for the entire student body to study and concentrate in a conducive atmosphere.

They were grateful to the Ministry and GES for not reneging on their promises of renovating the dormitory when they visited them.

The Deputy Minister in charge of pre-tertiary education, Hon. Alex Kyeremeh, reiterated Government’s support for the development of education, promising government’s  continuous support in ensuring that a conducive environment for teaching and learning is created at all times. He urged the students to protect the properties of the school at all times.

The Regional Minister for Eastern Region, Hon. Mavis Ama Frempong, was grateful to the Ministry for the quick response and other philanthropists for their kind gestures.

Headmaster of the school, Rev. Abraham Osei Donkor, said affected students were undergoing a comprehensive counselling by the school’s counselling unit.
