Ghana, Mauritius Relationship should play on Strength – Hon. Minister

.

The Minister for Education, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has said the importance of Mauritius and Ghana collaboration in education is of utmost importance especially at the higher level of education.

She noted that the collaboration should be beneficial to both countries since both countries have expertise in key areas.

The Hon. Minister made these statements when a Mauritius delegation called on her at her office in preparation of the visit of Mauritius Minister of Finance and Economic Development in November this year.

The call on the Minister was to explore opportunities in Ghana in the area of education and discuss relevant areas for effective collaboration and operations.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said a team would be put together by the Ministry to discuss possible areas such as the setting up of a school of medicine and vocational training where the two countries could share experiences.

She called on the delegation to use the relationship that had existed between the two countries to build on each other’s strength.

She urged that the south-south corporation between Ghana and Mauritius should be modelled in a way that would be beneficial to the two countries.

The Hon. Minister urged Mauritius to bring their expertise in the sugarcane production to fit into Ghana’s education ladder. She requested for a possible training in sugar and salt production at the schools.

Mr. Ravind Nithoo, Manager of Outward Investment at the Board of Investment in Mauritius agreed with the Minister on the need for a complementary collaboration between the two countries.

He said his country would like to invest in a school of medicine and vocational training and was opened to others areas of importance.

The delegation was made up of Mr. Ravind Nithoo, Mr. Maheshwar Oodit, Investment Executive, New Business Development, Mauritius and accompanied by Mr. Alex Twumasi, Senior Investment Promotion Officer, Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC).
