  MEAGASA Mathematics Academy in collaboration with Ministry of Education has held a two week intensive training workshop for   151 mathematics teachers in Lashibi, a suburb of Accra.  The participants were drawn from the Central, Western and Northern regions.

The training among others seeks to equip them with new skills that would improve their delivery as mathematics teachers.

Presenting 151 laptops to the participants at the closing ceremony of the workshop, the Minister for Education, Hon. Prof. Naana Opoku- Agyemang, urged them to actualize their new skills into improving the lower trend of mathematics and weep up the appetite of students in the subject.

The underperformance of students in secondary education especially in mathematics and science does not  only pose challenge to Ghana but also to  other developed and developing countries, recalling that, Ghana stands to gain a lot if continued effort is made to improve proficiency in mathematics and science.

The President of Ghana Mathematics Society, Prof.S.E. Anku, advised them to use the newly acquired skills in demystifying mathematics as a difficult subject and help in changing the negative mindset of students.

He further called on the participants to use the newly acquired skills set in mathematics in turning the fortunes of the subject, reminding that the principle methods of the subject ensures efficiency in all spheres of life.

The course prefect of the participants Ms. Sharifatu Mohammed was grateful for the opportunity extended them in acquiring new skills promising the group would do their best to deconstruct the negative perception of mathematics from the minds of students and reconstruct them with a sense of optimism about the subject
