Minister Receives TUDEC Delegation from Turkey

A six-member delegation from the Ghana-Turkey Cooperation and Development (TUDEC) on Friday, January 9, 2015 paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Education, Prof. Naana Jane-Opoku-Agyemang, in her office in Accra.

The delegation is in the country to attend the 2nd Annual Conference and General Meeting of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU) to be hosted by University of Cape Coast, here in Ghana.

The five-day conference is under the theme, "Harmonisation of Academic Programmes and Qualifications in Africa (Arusha Convention): Implication For West Africa".

The leader of the delegation, Prof. Dr. Serif Ali Tekalan, who is also the Vice-chancellor of the Faith University in Turkey, called for closer ties through exchange programmes for the staff and students of institutions of higher learning for the two countries.

He maintained that through education, the two countries could explore the areas of Science and Technology, Commerce and other disciplines for the benefit of both countries even though diversity might be an element.

The association also used the opportunity to invite the Minister to Turkey.

In her response, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang described issues on diversity, exchange programmes and cooperation between institutions of higher learning as very important saying through diversity, the world became rich. She said, people all over the world should take advantage of this richness in cultural diversity to bid farewell to war, disease and hunger especially in the 21st Century.

She charged Ghanaian students studying in Turkey to learn more about the culture of Turkey to the benefit of Ghana upon their return.
